Infant Classroom- “The Nursery”
Why choose The Learning Garden for your infant’s home away from home? The Nursery is a unique place for infants and young toddlers that are six weeks to eighteen months in age. This is a unique classroom that transforms with the children, from learning to sit up, crawling, walking, and learning those first words our staff is there every inch of the way. If you would like to learn a little more about how we, The Learning Garden, encourage age appropriate development of your infant and young toddler, read on!
The word “Nursery” conjures up images of a carefully tended garden, of a gentle place of growing and nurturing. Our nursery for infants is a place of “care”, of physical needs, intellectual stimulation, and the social/emotional aspects of young children’s lives. It has been specially designed to create a warm and secure environment for your infant. From the peaceful sleeping area to rocking chair and the discovery area, babies in the nursery have a very special place…..home away from home!
Often you may have heard people say statements like, “Don’t spoil the baby“, other people may tell you if you give an infant too much attention, you would spoil him. But when an infant cries, it is because he/she needs something. It is out of the care given that a bond develops between parent (caregiver) and child, and it is this bond that makes later communication possible. Here at The Learning Garden, we believe the same theory that Erikson believed. An infant learns whether the world in which he lives can be trusted. When he is hungry and he cries, will he be fed? When his bottom is wet, will his diaper be changed? When he is unwell or afraid, will he be comforted? We feel that when an infant's physical and emotional needs are met in a consistent and caring way, he learns that the world can be counted on and he develops an attitude of trust in people. If his needs are not met, an infant may become fearful and learns not to trust the people around him. It is our goal to communicate with your child every day, listen to their needs, and meet them. As an extension of the home, we believe in collaboration between parent, caregiver and child to develop and maintain the optimal environment for your new infant.
We understand that returning to work can be a stressful experience for a new parent, that is why we encourage you to bring your child by several times to get familiar with their caregiver and the classroom. Once your child has been added to the role, (first week tuition holds your spot and keeps you from having to pay on their first day) just call and let us know when you would like to stop by. The more comfortable you feel on that first day, the easier the transition for you and your child. Remember we are here for you and your family anytime you have questions, please just call. Thanks again for your time and consideration of our child development center. We look forward to getting to know you better.
